Beams

Steel House stocks an extensive list of wide flange steel beams (or W–Beams) at a variety of sizes and lengths.  All our steel beams are available cut to length, pre-drilled and prime painted. Email us about ALL our in-house fabrication processes for steel beams.

Steel Beam Specs: ASTM A-992 / A572 Gr. 50; Structural Grade.

Available Finishes: Stainless, Aluminum, Galvanized and Hot Rolled Steel

  • Uses: Residential and commercial structural construction, truck and trailer framing, RHU/AHU platforms and curbs, canopies, etc.
  • Know the numbers: The first number on any beam size is the closest depth (in inches) while the second number is the pounds per foot that the beam can carry.  Example: A W8x18 has an 8in. flange to flange depth and has a load capacity of 18lbs. per foot.
  • NOTE: Some beams may be slightly under or over the first number depending on the beam size. A common misconception is that there is only one size beam for each depth (4”, 6”, 8”, etc.) however for each depth there are several different options available depending on the load needed.  Each beam for a given depth has a different flange thickness, web thickness and flange width.

Channel

Steel House stocks a variety of structural and architectural channel for any type of job.  All our channel is available in stock lengths or custom cut to any length under 50’. Email us about coping, drilling and welding your next project with channel from Steel House.

Steel Channel Specs: ASTM A-36/ A529 Gr. 50; Structural Grade.

Available Finishes: Aluminum, Galvanized, Stainless and Hot Rolled Steel.

  • Uses: Residential and commercial structural construction, truck and trailer framing, RHU/AHU platforms and curbs, canopies, stair stringers, wall reinforcement, etc.
  • Know the numbers: The first number on any channel size is the depth (in inches) while the second number is the pounds per foot that the channel can carry.  Example: A C3x4.1 has an 3in. flange to flange depth and has a load capacity of 4.1lbs. per foot.
  • NOTE: A common misconception is that there is only one size channel for each depth (4”, 6”, 8”, etc.) however for each depth there are several different options available depending on the load needed.  Each channel for any given depth has a different flange thickness, web thickness and flange width.

  • Know the numbers: Square tube and rectangular tube is available in thickness as small as 18ga. and progressively gets larger to as thick as 1/2”.  The higher the gauge, the thinner the material.
  • NOTE: All our structural steel tube is a welded structural grade tubing, the most commonly used square tube in the steel industry.

Steel Angle Specs: ASTM A-36, A529, A572 Grade 50; Structural Grade.

Available Finishes: Stainless, Aluminum, Galvanized and Hot Rolled Steel

  • Uses: Residential and commercial structural lintels, pour stops, general fabrication, dumpster gate framing, steel embed angle, etc.
  • Know the numbers: Angle is measured from outside edge to outside edge.  The inside dimension is the angle size minus the thickness of the material.
  • NOTE: All our structural angle has a radius inside corner.  If you are looking for a sharp inside edge, ask about our architectural angle.

  • Uses: Residential and commercial structural columns, handrails/guardrails, general fabrication, pipe bollards, etc.
  • Know the numbers: For all our pipe products, the nominal size associated with each pipe size is the inside diameter of the pipe, while the schedule is the thickness of the material.  (Example:3” schedule 40 has a 3” inside diameter and a 3.5” outside diameter with a wall thickness of 0.216”)
  • NOTE:All our pipe is available in either schedule 10 or schedule 40, while some of our larger pipe is available in schedule 80.

Available Stock Sizes: 21ft and 42ft. lengths or custom cut to any size.  Our pipe bollards are available in 4”, 6” and 8” precut to 6’, 7’ and 8’ lengths, pre-primed and ready to go.  Ask us about our plastic bollard covers available in safety yellow to eliminate the need for field painting.

Round Tube

Steel House stocks long list of round tube at a variety of sizes and lengths.  All our steel round tube is available in stock lengths or cut to length. Email us about our fabrication processes available for round tube such as coping, miter cutting, welding, etc.

Steel Round Tube Specs: ASTM A513, type 5.

Available Finishes: Stainless, Aluminum and Hot Rolled Steel

  • Uses: Mechanical uses such as shafts, axles, bushings, steering columns, vehicle framing, pipe sleeves etc.
  • Know the numbers: Round Tube, also referred to as DOM is measured by the outside diameter, not the inside diameter (like our steel pipe-link to pipe page).  Example:3” OD x 0.250” wall has an outside diameter of 3”, a wall thickness of 0.250” and an inside diameter of 2.5”.
  • NOTE: All of the DOM material that we stock is seamless, meaning that, unlike our structural pipe, there is not weld seem inside the material.

Steel Flat Bar Specs: ASTM-A36

Available Finishes: Stainless, Aluminum, Galvanized, Hot Rolled Steel and Cold Rolled Steel (Cold Drawn C-1018)

  • Uses: Residential and commercial structural construction, steel framing, forgings, steel brackets, beam saddles, base plates for steel columns, etc.
  • Know the numbers: The first number for each flat bar description is the thickness of the material, while the second number is the width of the material. Example:1/2” x 3” is a flat bar that is 1/2” thick and 3” wide.
  • NOTE: The thinnest available flat bar in any size is 1/8” thick.  If you need flat straps thinner than 1/8”,email us about our hydraulic shear that can shear strips of any gauge material to the custom size you need!

  • Know the numbers: Round bar is a solid round steel bar which only has one dimension which is the outside diameter of the material. Example:1/4″ round bar is 1/4” outside diameter.
  • NOTE: The thinnest available round bar is 1/4” thick while the largest available is 3”.

Available Finishes: Aluminum and Hot Rolled Steel

  • Uses: Residential and commercial structural construction, steel framing, forgings, base plates for steel columns, steel ramps, custom steel saddles, road plate, etc.
  • Know the numbers: The thinnest plate that is offered is 3/16” thick material.  Anything thinner than 3/16” thick would be considered sheetmaterial (hyperlink to “Sheet”).
  • NOTE: Our shear can cut up to 1/2″ thick material.  For material thicker than 1/2″ we can either torch the material or send it to our CNC burner to be burned.

  • Know the numbers: The thinnest plate that is offered is 26ga. while the thickest is 11 ga. (1/8”) in 2ga. intervals.
  • NOTE: The higher the nominal gauge, the thinner the material.

  • Know the numbers: The first number in the material is the opening size while the second number is the material thickness.  Example:3/4″ x 9 expanded metal has 3/4″ openings and has a thickness of 9 gauge.
  • NOTE: Expanded metal is available in both standard and flattened material.

  • Uses: Residential and commercial structural construction, platform walkway, stair treads, catwalk, sidewalk and trench grating, etc.
  • Know the numbers: The first number in the material description is the height of the material (or width of flat bars), while the second number is the thickness of the flat bars. Example:1/4″ x 1-1/2” bar grating has 1/4″ bars that are 1-1/2” wide, meaning this grating sits 1-1/2” tall.
  • NOTE: Bar grating is available in smooth and serrated top, along with being available in painted, galvanized or bare.

Steel Grip Strut Specs: Grip Strut(Trademark R) has been tested by an independent laboratory for slip resistance according to the standards established by Federal Specification and Grip Strut(trademark R) exceeded all requirements for this specification.

  • Know the numbers: The first number in the material description is the material width, the second number is the material height and the third number is the material thickness. Example:11-3/4” x 2” x 12ga. Grip Strut(trademark R) is a 11-3/4” wide x 2” tall piece made of 12ga. material.
  • NOTE: Material is available as small as 4-3/4” wide and as large as 24” wide.

Steel Rebar Specs: Grade 60 and A706 (Weldable) Grade

Available Finishes: Hot Rolled Steel

  • Uses: Residential and commercial structural construction, anti-theft cages, reinforcing structural steel for concrete, steel embeds for concrete, etc.
  • Know the numbers: The nominal description for rebar refers to the imperial bar size. #3 rebar is 3/8” thick, #4 is 1/2″ thick, #5 is 5/8” thick, etc.
  • NOTE: Grade A706 is required if you are going to be welding your rebar together as opposed to using tie wire.  Forgot to grab your tie wire? Stop in and grab some in our showroom!

Diamond Plate

Diamond plate (also known as floor plate and tread plate) is stocked in a variety of stock and pre-cut sizes and thickness. Steel Diamond Plate has raised diamond patterns that provide slip resistance for a wide variety of applications. At Steel House, our diamond plate is available sheared to order.  We offer a variety of custom fabrication processes for diamond plate including forming, welding, cutting and much more. Email us about our formed diamond plate stair treads!

Steel Floor Plate Specs: ASTM-A786

Available Finishes: Hot Rolled Steel and Aluminum

  • Uses: Residential and commercial structural construction, decorative wall coverings, guardrail/handrail barriers, formed stair treads, custom truck bed tool boxes, floor covering, restaurant wall and floor covering, etc.
  • Know the numbers: The thickness of the material does not take into account the height of the raised diamond pattern, rather the thickness of the material is the thickness of the plate itself.
  • NOTE: Raised diamond pattern stands between 1/16” and 1/8” tall.

Steel Perforated Sheet Specs: ASTM-A36

Available Finishes: Hot Rolled Steel

  • Uses: Residential and commercial structural construction, decorative wall coverings, guardrail/handrail barriers, barbecue grills and smokers, drainage bins, etc.
  • Know the numbers: The first number in the material description is the material thickness, the second number is the hole size and the third number is the hole spacing.  Example: 3/8” x 9/16” is a material that is 16 gauge thick with 3/8” holes staggered 9/16” on center.
  • NOTE: Hole pattern can be ordered in a variety of hole sizes and spacings along with both staggered and in-line pattern spacing.

Decking

Steel House stocks the most commonly used metal decking in a variety of sizes and thicknesses.  All our roof deck is available cut to order.  We offer a variety of custom fabrication processes for steel decking including welding, cutting and much more. Email us about our pour stop angles today!

Available Finishes: Galvanized and Painted

  • Uses: Residential and commercial structural construction, barn siding, decorative barriers, dumpster gate panels, etc.
  • Know the numbers: The first number is the material height, while the second number is the material thickness. The letter refers to the type of pattern that coincides with said decking. Example:5” B 20ga. steel deck is decking that is 1-1/2” tall and 20 ga. thickness.
  • NOTE:Steel House stocks form deck, composite deck, A and B deck.
